2020 Best Guide To Hair Twists

Twists are a type of hairstyle formed by twisting several sections of hair around one another. When done right, they give that authentic Afro look that’s quickly making its way to the fashion scene.  Hair twists are usually best for tougher hair. However, if you’ve got fine hair, you can be part of the fun too if you use the right products and follow the right twisting technique.  Are you looking to twist your hair but have got no clue on how to go about it? You’ll get all the answers to your questions and so much more in the article below:

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HAIR FOR TWISTING

Twisting is easier on hair that’s detangled properly and damp. You can detangle the follicles using a wide-tooth comb or your fingers.  If your hair is clean already, you can skip to the good part: Split your hair into sections depending on the number of twists you wish to do and hold them in place with croc clips.

TYPES OF TWISTS

TWO-STRAND TWISTS

There are lots of options to choose from with these beautiful hair twists. They are when you take two sections of hair and wrap them around one another in a continuous manner to the ends.   Whether you’d like them all over your head, on each side of your head, thin, chunky, few, or many, the choice is yours to make.  When using hair extensions, two-strand twists have different names depending on the type of synthetic hair used to add volume and how thin or chunky they are. There are four main sub-types of two-strand twists: Marley twists, Nubian twists, Senegalese twists, and Havana twists.

FLAT TWISTS

These hair twists are pretty similar to cornrows and French pleats. They are formed when you do a two-strand twist and keep the twisting part near the head, picking up a small section of hair as you proceed.

A TWIST OUT

A twist out takes shape when done on damp hair. Two or three-strand twists are done on wet hair, then they are allowed to dry totally. The hair twists are then unraveled carefully with fingertips coated in a little lightweight styling serum, to expose a cute curl pattern.  You can add more volume to your look by adding a little more frizz to your hair’s texture and separating each of the curls after unraveling to create more curls.

FINGER TWISTS

These hair twists are also known as one-strand twists and are created when you take one section of hair and wind it around itself in the direction that hair usually turns in. You can do them all over your head of hair, usually when it is damp.

THREE-STRAND TWIST

Here, you take three strands of hair, the same way you would get ready for a braid, but the method is different.

WHICH IS THE SIMPLEST TWIST TO DO ON YOUR OWN?

Definitely two-strand twists. They take a short time to prepare and work well for all types of hair textures, whether wavy, kinky, curly, or coily.  All it takes is to determine the kind of style you’re going for and twist two sections of evenly-sized hair around each other according to the density and length of your hair and your preference.  If your hair texture is wavy or loose curls, it would help to tie the ends of your hair with a small band to secure the twists.

HOW TO TELL IF YOUR TWIST HAS GONE WRONG

If, at the ends of the hair sections, you notice that one section is shorter than the other one. The hair sections must be of the same length and should be twisted at a steady pace. Don’t rush and put all the time and energy you can on all the processes involved.  Instead of throwing a fit when you blunder the first time, take a deep breath, disentangle the sections, and start again, this time while taking your time.

HOW LONG CAN TWISTS LAST?

This depends on how you care for them during the night, the texture of your hair, and how loose or tight you hold the strands as you twist.  The more tension you apply as you do the twists and the more tightly curled your hair is, the higher the endurance level; most times up to a week.
